After over a year of visiting specialists and contemplating spinal surgery I was referred to a doctor that recommended I try rehabilitative pelvic floor Pilates. I connected with The Cornerstone Pilates team , at first online due to COVID and then in the studio. Within 6 months I became pain free and have never looked back. I no longer get back spasms and know exactly what to do if my SI starts to act up a little.  I now have the confidence to participate in the things that I had previously stopped . I continue to improve my flexibility and mobility and feel great after every session with the Cornerstone team!

Just wanted to reach out to tell you how much I'm enjoying the Zoom sessions we've been doing. I know I was reluctant at first, but I'm really glad I tried it. Finding a small space in my home was easy, setting up the laptop at the right angle took less than a minute with your help, and even without any equipment except for a mat and some throw pillows, I had a great workout.

I came to The Cornerstone Pilates, after reading awesome reviews online. I started my weekly private sessions with Hélène. I had so much back pain and shoulder pain, as well as post partum weight loss, that I really needed to tone and reconnect with my core.
Hélène slowly introduced me to various techniques and methods of breathing to really focus on breath and core. Let me tell you, after only a few sessions, I felt so much more balanced with my body and was taught how to improvise some of the techniques from the comfort of my home. I am a 25 year old young man and I’ve been seeing Jocelyne for almost a year. I decided to visit her due to repetitive ankle injuries, chronic low back pain, chronic hip discomfort, and a number of dramatic muscle imbalances throughout my body. When I first started seeing Jocelyne I was also seeing a personal trainer but shortly after my first few private sessions I realized how incredibly beneficial her work is and decided to fully dedicate myself to The Cornerstone Pilates. Jocelyne is absolutely amazing at what she does. She has an authentic care for her clients and her passion for Pilates is evident in every session. Jocelyne has truly made me believe that “a few well-designed movements, properly performed in a balanced sequence, are worth hours of doing sloppy calisthenics or forced contortion”. She always listens attentively to my concerns, she keeps detailed notes, and we revisit movements overtime in order to track progression. I have work to do when I am at home so I come back the following week stronger and I sincerely appreciate her dedication to her clients by inspiring them to always work on improving themselves. I am skeptical about any new exercise regime that I try,as I have scoliosis and I am prone to back pain. I came across The Cornerstone Pilates through a friend. When I visited their studio for an assessment,by the end of the session, I felt reassured that the teachers were well informed and knew what they were doing .

I have done the mat foundation and ELDOA classes. All the teachers give very detailed instructions which are easy to understand. Class size is small and every individual gets personal attention at the group rate. The teachers also make sure that everybody is well 'aligned' which is a necessity if injury is to be avoided.

So far,I have only done a month and a bit of pilates with The Cornerstone Pilates, but I am already feeling the difference. I have noticed improved posture, reduction in my  back pain, increased strength and mobility in my muscles and joints. 

I am grateful to have found Jocelyne and her team and look forward to many more months of Pilates experience with them.

"She taught me the one thing I needed to know.  How to fix myself...." 

As a child I was never very active.  Fast forward to me becoming active as an adult.  I had a new interest in everything… yoga, crossfit, weightlifting, running and eventually triathlon however I did not understand basic body mechanics.  I eventually wound up injuring myself.  This set me off on a never ending journey to find people to “fix” me and once they did I would just reinjure myself.  It was also mentally challenging and many days I was depressed.  

I finally got an MRI.  I had herniated a disc and bulging discs.  My body was trying to tell me something.  I needed to stop and listen.  

One day my RMT told me one of her clients had great success with Pilates.  After hearing her story I took the name of the instructor and started sessions with her.  It was at that point that I knew I needed to stop what I was doing and focus on moving my body, the right way.  I was tired of physically struggling with simple daily things like getting out of bed or not being able to empty the dishwasher without supporting my weight on the counter.  

I was introduced to the basics, I thought to myself there is no way these small movements were going to make a difference but kept going.  I had run out of options.  The more I went the more I realized it was helping, the movements, although small were difficult but I could tell that I needed them.  

A lightbulb went off.

It was at that point that I realized I needed to take things to the next level, and when I found Jocelyne.  She taught me the one thing I needed to know.  How to fix myself.  I had spent years finding people to fix me, not realizing the importance of being given the tools to learn how to do this myself.  I started taking private sessions as well as attending her group classes.  Pilates is a priority for me now, it is allowing me to rebuild my life.  With Jocelyne’s guidance she teaches me how important muscle awareness is, as a triathlete I need to understand what my body is doing and notice when I need to adjust things.  As I find new challenges I discuss them with Jocelyne and during our private sessions she targets them, helping me understand the proper movements and work on ways to improve and get stronger.  

I'm proud to say that on the days I struggle to get out of bed now it's because of the workouts I have planned not because of back pain!  Thanks to Jocelyne I am able to enjoy the simple things in life again and I've also completed two triathlons!  I would highly recommend trying classes at The Cornerstone Pilates.  I look forward to seeing you there!

My life extender-it is important now as we are living longer, that we keep our bodies in optimal health to help us age gracefully and painlessly. "I feel myself getting stronger..."

I was told by my Doctor and Chiro that I should do Pilates, as I had developed very painful SI joint problems, and I had to strengthen my core, etc.    I had a preconceived notion of what Pilates was...not my style...but decided I would give it a try, what could it hurt?  I had previously met Jocelyne, and liked her demeanor and personality.  Well, here goes nothing!   To my pleasant surprise....I love it!  I find Pilates so beneficial and I feel myself getting stronger, but not only that, Pilates wouldn’t be what it is if it weren’t for Jocelyne.  Her extensive skill and knowledge puts you in a comfort zone.  She modifies the moves and exercises for your specific needs, if need be.  Who would think that a generally gently exercise can work those muscles of ours so strongly!  I leave the class energized and feeling all around good!  I can’t extol enough Jocelyne’s exceptional teaching method of Pilates as well as her contagious smile and enthusiasm.
