Meet Jocelyne

1- Hey Jocelyne, can you introduce yourself?

Hi everyone, I’m the founder of The Cornerstone Pilates

2- Can you take us through your journey to where you are now?

I feel like I’ve already lived so many lives, it makes it difficult to answer this question in a short paragraph. Let’s just say, I once was lost, but now I’m found. I’m exactly where I need to be and I’m no longer seeking to fill a void.

3- What is a day in the life of you like? I’m sure this won’t come as a surprise to anyone, but I’m a do-er. I wake up early as my hormonal clock has a vendetta against me. I’m either thinking about my business, Pilates, neuroscience, my clients or ways I can improve on all the above.

4- Can you highlight your 3 favourite Pilates exercises?

1- tendon stretch

2- high bridge on the caddy

3- semi-circle

5- Can you tell us what areas you have struggled in professionally?

I’m not a sales person. I’m more of a “if you like it, you can come back” kind of person…. Not very convincing

6- What do you believe are the common misconceptions about Pilates?

It’s not what you see on Instagram. Joseph Pilates created 34 Pilates exercises which he termed contrology. After his passing, the industry blew up and created many different schools and variations which have moved further away from his method. Many people today don’t know what Pilates truly is. We teach Pilates inspired exercises, but it’s actually not contrology.

7- What is the best piece of business advice you have received to date?

Don’t worry about what others are doing. Stay true to yourself.

8- What is the number 1 critical lesson you have learned in your career so far?

You can’t make people love Pilates. It’s a personal experience.

9- How do you create an evenly balanced work and personal life?

I value family time immensely, I have an amazing husband, a brilliantly beautiful daughter, 3 cuddly kitties, a sweet dog, in-laws that love and support me and my birth family who’s in Montreal and whom I have zoom calls with twice a week. These beings are my source.

10- Which other leading entrepreneurs and pioneering game changers do you also admire and why?

Yuval Noah Harari for his take on evolution (I would love to read such a phenomenal book written by a woman), Robert Sapolsky for bringing humour to science, Kathryn Kolbert for her endless fight for women.

11- How do you define success?

Happiness. I love laughing, so my question is do I get to laugh often or is my job bringing me down? It’s simple. Happiness is everything.

12- What’s it like working at The Cornerstone Pilates?

I have an amazing supportive team who I’m so grateful for. It wouldn’t be The Cornerstone without them.
